Josephine is currently a PhD candidate in the Environmental and Life Sciences program at Trent University. She is completing her research under the co-supervision of Dr. Sanela Martic and Dr. Robert Huber. Josephine’s previous MSc research was focused on protein therapeutics and misfolding in ALS, which she is continuing to progress using Dictyostelium discoideum as a human disease model organism. Outside of the lab, you can find Josephine hiking in the Warsaw caves, skating at outdoor rinks, or cheering on the Bills.

Colin is currently a PhD candidate in Applied Bioscience at Ontario Tech University under the supervision of Dr. Theresa Stotesbury. Previously, Colin obtained a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science (BScFS) from Trent University, where his honours thesis analyzed the RNA degradation in bloodstains to estimate their time since deposition (TSD). Colin’s PhD research couples the rheological characterization of DNA extracts from bloodstains with fluorimetry for TSD estimations. In his spare time, Colin enjoys walks in nature, working out and watching and playing just about any sport.

Virginia is an Applied Bioscience PhD candidate in the Desaulniers lab. Before her PhD, she studied at the University of Toronto, obtaining a HBSc in Forensic Biology. Her doctoral research focuses on oligonucleotide therapeutics and the dual behaviours of small RNA drugs with different chemical modifications to either upregulate or silence gene expression. When she’s not busy taking care of her cancer cells, Virginia likes to find new places to eat great food and take care of her carnivorous plants.

Meaghan is currently a MSc Candidate in the Applied Bioscience program at Ontario Tech University under the supervision of Dr. Jean-Paul Desaulniers. Before her graduate work, Meaghan completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Forensic Science at Ontario Tech University, where her honours thesis involved the synthesis of an alginate-HRP-based biomaterial for use as a chemically relevant forensic blood substitute. Now, Meaghan’s graduate work looks to chemically modify DNA hairpins with azobenzene derivatives to develop spatiotemporal tunable oligonucleotides as a novel tool for the outward control of biomolecules involved in gene editing and regulation. When she's not spending time at school, she enjoys reading, going to the gym, and watching anime and kdramas.
